Mezza Sliders

Mezza is a Middle Eastern term for a collection of small appetizer plates.  Usually included are hummus, flatbread, baba ganoush, dolmas, and other delicious dishes.  Here I have combined some of my favorite mezza flavors into one bite-sized slider.  Perfect for your next belly dancing convention.   Makes 12

For the kafta patties:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 C. minced onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 t. cumin
  • 1/2 t. garam masala
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 T. fresh mint, minced

For the yogurt sauce:

  • 1/2 C. plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 T. fresh mint, minced
  • 1 t. lemon juice
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1/4 t. cumin

You will also need:

In a large bowl, combine the kafta patty ingredients well and form into patties about 2 1/2 inched wide.  Heat the oven to 400 degrees.  Place the patties on a greased baking sheet and bake for about 8 minutes, or until golden brown.  Meanwhile, mix the yogurt sauce ingredients together and set aside.  To assemble, spread a round of flatbread with about 1 T. hummus.  Top it with a kafta patty, some of the yogurt sauce, a mint leaf, and another flatbread round.
