This drink started out with a G rating. I made a batch of lavender lemonade to serve at a party. Then I saw an icy bottle of vodka in the freezer. The drink quickly became rated R.
Lavender Simple Syrup
- 10 to 12 stems of blooming lavender, plus more for garnish
- 1 C. sugar
- 1 C. water
For the lemonade
- 1 C. freshly squeezed lemon juice, from about 6 lemons
- 5 C. water
- vodka
First make the lavender simple syrup. In a small saucepan, bring the sugar, 1 C. of water and the lavender to a rolling boil.
Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Strain the syrup and discard the lavender. Squeeze the lemons and strain the juice into a large pitcher. Add 5 C. of cold water and the simple syrup and stir to combine. Chill the pitcher. Serve as is, or to make the Lemon Drop, fill a shaker with ice and shake 1 oz. of vodka with 4 oz. lemonade. Serve in a chilled martini glass and garnish with a sprig of lavender.
